Hasan Kalyoncu University’s Department of English Language Teaching hosted a special event addressing the impact of the digital age on English language education. The panel titled “From Chaos to Clarity: Managing the E-era in ELT” was held on Friday, May 2nd, in the Law Faculty Auditorium at HKU. The event featured two distinguished scholars as speakers and drew significant interest from both prospective teachers and faculty members.
The event began with opening speeches delivered between 13:45 and 14:00. It was followed by a presentation from Prof. Dr. Kemal Sinan Özmen, a faculty member at Gazi University, titled “Breaking the Orthodoxy: Misconceptions of ELT.” Özmen discussed common but flawed assumptions in the ELT field, offering participants a critical perspective.
In the second session, Prof. Dr. Cem Balçıkanlı, also from Gazi University, delivered a talk titled “It’s a Mindset Thing: Which One Is Yours?” Through thought-provoking examples on teacher mindsets, Balçıkanlı raised awareness about perspectives within the teaching process.
The event, which brought together esteemed educators, faculty members, and prospective teachers, stood out for its comprehensive exploration of the transformations in ELT during the digital age and their effects on educators’ viewpoints. Hasan Kalyoncu University’s Department of English Language Teaching continues to support the professional development of future teachers by engaging them in current academic discussions through such events.
